Shaw Protesters Burn American Flag After Police Shooting Death of Vonderrit Myers

The shooting death of 18-year-old Vonderrit Myers at the hands of an off-duty St. Louis police officer sparked outrage amongst hundreds of protesters in the Shaw neighborhood.

The demonstrators took to the streets in a face off against the police.

A few protestors decided to burn an American flag during the melee.

Myers was reported to have been shot just minutes after purchasing a sandwich. He was killed after allegedly firing three shots at the officer who returned fire 17 times.

Myers’ shooting occurred about 15 miles from Ferguson, MO. Michael Brown, 18, was fatally shot by police Aug. 9 in the small St. Louis suburb. The nation is currently awaiting a grand jury’s decision on whether they will indict officer Darren Wilson on murder charges. The jury has until January to make a decision.
