An armed robbery plot set up by Deonta Mackey and friends cost the teen his life in only a matter of seconds.
Mackey, 16, and friends confronted an off-duty police officer in a Feb. 11 attempted car jacking.
Rising Chicago rapper RondoNumbaNine was a close associate of Mackey and took to IG to remember the fallen teen.
The “Real N*gga 4 Life 2” rapper posted a photo of himself with Mackey with a caption reading, “Rip dat Li n*gga Mackey man dat was my n*gga man he was letting clown ass n*gga control his mind doe #S*itBeCrazy #myn*gga.”
Another photo surfaced online showing the two as small children.
The young man simply known to friends as “Mackey” made a cameo appearance in Rondo’s “Hang Wit Me” remix.
Mackey was killed after demanding valuables and car keys from the unsuspecting cop who was pumping his gas.
Surveillance footage shows the officer seemingly complying with the teens’ demands before immediately drawing his own weapon and firing a shot at Mackey’s head.
Mackey’s accomplices fled the scene as he hit the pavement, taking his last few breaths. He died at the scene.
Mackey had a completed a month long house arrest sentence Feb. 6, 2013 for an alleged robbery, CBS Chicago reports. Mackey had a lengthy juvenile arrest record that also included assault and cannabis possession.
Mackey’s mentor Carlos Estes told CBS Chicago the youth was expelled from high school. He was looking to get the troubled teen enrolled in an alternative school.
“Had a lot to do with peer pressure and wanting to be a part of and belonging to a group of individuals,” Estes said.
