Montana of 300 Explains What ‘Montana’ and ‘300’ Stands For

There is special meaning to Montana of 300’s rap name. Actually, the “Montana” and “300” in the Chiraq artist’s name both hold special meaning.

“In school, I was Tony. We was hustling coming up, so that’s where the Montana came from,” he told RoseD of This Is 50. “It’s Tony Montana. People was calling me that in high school. The 300 is nothing gang related. It stand for ‘no surrender, no retreat.’ I’ve been Montana 300 since 2008.”

Montana elaborated more on the use of 300 in his name during an interview with Hip Hops Revival.

“My 300 is based off the movie ‘300,’” he explained. “I started it in like 2008. It was part of a rap group. It was three of us. Now it’s two. My 300 is based off the movie, no surrender, no retreat. Against all odds, 300 soldiers went against and killed thousands. It represents me in so many ways. Even where I’m at today, I got there on my own. …No radio, no famous friends, no people giving shout outs on social media, no features, no none of that. I’m at where I’m at today off my lyrics.”

“…It’s nothing gang related.”
