‘Menace II Society’ Actor Tyrin Turner Says Allen Hughes Called Tupac a ‘Bitch’

“Menace II Society” was a groundbreaking film in the early 90s. It was a telling screenplay depicting the urban plight in South Central L.A.

The film helped launch the careers of several actors and actresses, including Larenz Tate and Jada Pinkett Smith.

One of the more controversial incidents that occurred in the pre-production stages of filming was the infamous fight between Tupac and director Allen Hughes.

Tupac was to have a starring role in the film, but fallout prevented the “Thug Life” rapper from appearing in the movie.

Actor Tyrin Turner, who portrayed Caine, recounted what went down during the altercation on the “Sway In The Morning” show.

Pac “was coming off that ‘Juice’ energy, so he just was more animated,” Turner said. “He just felt like the Sharif character, the bean pies and all that wasn’t cool. I need a pistol. I need to be pistol whipping. I want in.”

The character of Sharif, portrayed by Vonte Sweet, was a reformed gang banger turned Muslim. Tupac wasn’t interested in playing the role of a Muslim.

“The Hughes Brothers didn’t necessarily see it that way, so they got into it at the reading. Pac was more like, ‘I’m not feeling this. I can’t get into the character,’” Turner explained. “Then Allen was like ‘Stop acting like a bitch, right now.’ Then him and Pac looked at each other, then Allen told Pac, “Let’s step outside.’”

Turner then revealed another startling fact about the beef between Tupac and the Hughes. The former Def Row star retaliated from being axed from the film by getting members of the L.A. 40s Crips to jump Allen.

“I never saw Pac until we did the ‘Triggers Got No Heart’ video with Spice 1,” Turner said. “We doing the video. Everything cool, 300 feet down there we see somebody fighting. We don’t know who it is. We like ‘Damn, what’s going on down there.’ We stopped filming the video. We walking down there, we see like 30 or 40 niggas from crips 40s jumping on Allen. I don’t know where Albert went.”
