Chicago man Clarence January is purporting to be the assailant in possession of the gun that landed Lil’ Durk behind bars.
Police reportedly saw the OTF rapper pitch a stolen handgun in the backseat of a parked Hyundai Sonata in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side of Chicago, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
The 20-year-old Def Jam artist, whose birth name is Durk D. Banks, was subsequently charged with one felony count of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon.
Durk plead not guilty to charges Thursday in court.
January, 20, reportedly told police “this is my gun,” according to an affidavit the convicted felon signed.
Durk’s attorney, Sam Adam Jr., told the judge his client is not guilty of any wrongdoing, saying, “He tried to tell the officers at the time, and the officers took the defendant anyway,” according to DNAInfo.com.
Adam argued nine witnesses have come forward to say it was January’s gun.
January has a long rap sheet, including a 2010 unlawful use of weapon conviction, according to court records obtained by the Sun-Times. January was acquitted of an attempted murder charge in March.
The judge ordered Durk to be held in jail on $100,000 bail.
