Phyllis Ferguson, mother of slain Chardon High School student Demetrius Hewlin, said she forgives Thomas “TJ” Lane for the murder of her son.
The parents of 16-year-old Demetrius sat down with ABC News to discuss their thoughts on the shooting rampage that left three students dead, two injured and a community devastated by Monday’s tragic events.
Forgiveness, not anger, was in Ms. Ferguson’s heart when asked what she would say to Lane.
“I would tell him I forgive him because a lot of time they don’t know what they do… because if they did they wouldn’t do it,” she told ABC News.
“I taught Demetrius not to live in the past… to live in today. To be in here right now. At this present moment, forgiveness is divine. You have to forgive everyday, so everyday start off new. God ‘s grace is new each and everyday.”
