A Chicago man is accused of fatally stabbing his mother during a heated argument over him finding a girlfriend, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Andre Brown, 26, has been charged with first-degree murder in the slaying of his 54-year-old mother Damita Collins inside her Southwest Chicago home. He was ordered held on $1 million bail.

Brown told authorities he killed his mother for always putting him down and telling him he needed to find a girlfriend, DNAinfo reports.

According to CBS Chicago, Brown stabbed Collins in her chest and slashed her neck with a knife. Brown’s stepfather discovered Collins’ body after he went to investigate the heated argument between her and Brown. Brown fled the scene upon being chased by his stepfather. He was later apprehended by authorities at a relative’s house.
