Chicago Rapper Smylez Takes The Game Hostage In ‘The Villain’ Mixtape

Mostly known for his production skills, Smylez displayed another talent as he stepped behind the mic for his solo mixtape effort “The Villain.”

Hosted by DJ Hustlenomicz and DJ Rozay, “The Villain” features 17 tracks with multiple guest features.

Smylez, who hails from the 069 Bricksquad neighborhood, bills himself as the producer behind most rappers’ records in Chicago.

Smylez decided to harness that energy for himself in “The Villain” with aspirations of taking the “spotlight.”

But Smylez wasn’t shy to share the spotlight as his features included rappers Judo Heffner, Munnie, Hittz and Killa Kellz, to name a few.

Collectively, this energy produced a banger mixtape.

Arguably, the best song on the mixtape is “Aikiville.”

Listeners may find themselves putting the track on repeat. “Aikiville” is an ode to slain Chicago emcee Lil’ JoJo, which also features a sound bite from the “Have It All” rapper in the song’s hook.

Lil’ JoJo, born Joseph Coleman, met his untimely demise after he was murdered Sept. 4, 2012 in a hail of gunfire in a drive-by shooting as he was riding on the back pegs of a friend’s bike.

This track appropriately features Lil’ JoJo’s brother Swagg.

Swagg, born John Coleman, spazzes out on the track, rapping, “D-ville or no ville/ D-block or get shot/ Me and bro been real niggas/ Probably cuz we never had a pops/ JoJo wackin/ It get hectic, we catch a opp/In a lot of hoods, we got it locked/ We love the action, gun shots.”

Another hot track on “The Villain” is “How I Do” featuring Munnie. In addition to producing the track, Smylez also lays down some rhymes.

In “How I Do,” Smylez raps, “069 behind me/ I buy guns for my shooters/ I dare your ass to try me/ B*tches say that I ain’t worth shit cuz they like me/ Niggas swear to God, I ain’t on shit, but never try me.”

Other notable tracks on the mixtape include “How I Do,” “Watch Me Go Retarded” and “Smoke.”

As mentioned in “The Villain,” Smylez wants to take over the game and is not taking no for an answer.
