Actor Michael Clarke Duncan succumbed to complications from a July heart attack in a Los Angeles hospital, the Associate Press reports.

Duncan, who appeared in dozens of films, may be best known for his award winning role of John Coffey in “The Green Mile.” Duncan, 54, earned an Academy Award nomination for best supporting actor in the film based on the Stephen King novel.

With the build of a professional athlete, the 6-foot-5, 300 Duncan got his foot into the entertainment industry’s door as a bodyguard for celebrities, such as Will Smith, Martin Lawrence, Jamie Foxx, LL Cool J and the late Notorious B.I.G.

Duncan was engaged to reality star Omarosa Manigault before his untimely demise.
