There has been old phrase that when the country catches a cold, African Americans catch the flu. In this instance, African Americans have been trying to kick the flu bug for nearly 50 years.
Since the start of the Great Recession, the national unemployment’s rate peaked in 20120 with an annual average of 9.6 percent, however, from 2002 to 2005, the African-American unemployment rate was over 10 percent, according to Economic Policy Institute.
EPI also makes the shocking claim that high black unemployment has been a staple in the black community for 50 years.
