Mailman Gunned Down On Way To Work In Chiraq, Joked About Purchasing Bullet Proof Vest Weeks Before Murder

A United States Postal worker was on his way to work when he was gunned down in a hail of bullets Tuesday morning.

Anthony Hayes, 27, was sitting in his parked blue Dodge Charger outside his home at 6:30 a.m. when a gunman pulled up and fired at least 11 shots in his driver side window, according to ABC 7 Chicago.

In early March, Hayes joked on Facebook post he’d purchase a bullet proof for protection in the warm weather.

“The weather bout to be decent all week!!!! Time to go purchase a bullet proof vest because yall know the dumb sh-t Chicagoans do when it’s warm,” he wrote.

Hayes was hired at USPS in March 2013 after completing college at Northern Illinois University, according WGNTV.com.

Relatives told the Chicago Tribune Hayes loved his pet pit bull, watching basketball and football games and working out.

USPS issued the following statement in response to Hayes’ death:

“The Postal Service is deeply saddened by the tragic killing of our co-worker Anthony Hayes. Out thoughts and prayers are with Anthony’s family, co-workers and friends.”

Family and friends took to social media to mourn Hayes’ death.
