Lean, often called “Sizzurp” or “Purple Drank” has its origins in the South after Houston, TX producer DJ Screw popularized the beverage, a concoction made of promethazene-codein cough syrup, Sprite and Jolly Rancher candy.

Lean, when induced, provides its user a sedated feeling.

Gucci often promoted the illegal drink in his music.

In song “Darker,” Gucci raps, “My niggas drink Lean, not water.”
