No one may ever fully know what happened on that dark, rainy Feb. 26 night of Trayvon Martin’s death. But if there is any question into what precipitated Martin’s tragic demise, George Zimmerman’s 911 audio may provide some answers.
Though it has yet to be verified by an audio technician, it appears Zimmerman, 28, may have cocked his Kel-Tec PF-9 9mm pistol while in pursuit of Martin. In the 911 audio, the emergency dispatcher asks the neighborhood watchman to provide his name.
“He ran,” Zimmerman said before providing his name. Wind can be heard in the background of Zimmerman’s call suggesting he was outside.
Around the 2:40 mark, one can hear what seems to be a handgun being cocked.
Zimmerman’s version of events has been inconsistent to date. This new revelation may fill important holes in the case.
Cocking the trigger of a gun allows better control. It also makes the trigger “less safe.”
If Zimmerman did cock his weapon before his confrontation with Martin, prosecutors will have grounds to charge him with premeditated murder, a first-degree murder charge. Furthermore, a premeditated murder charge eliminates Zimmerman’s claims of self-defense.
George Zimmerman is charged with second-degree murder for the shooting death of Trayvon Martin. Zimmerman is using the “Stand Your Ground” defense alleging he shot the teen in self-defense. He is currently free on a $1 million bond and remains in Seminole County in a secure location.
