40 People Shot In Chicago Over Weekend

There was a reported 40 shootings in Chicago over the weekend, according to the Chicago Tribune. The shootings left at least four people dead.

One of the victims included 11-year-old Shamiyah Adams who was shot and killed by a stray bullet during a sleepover at a friend’s house.

There were 22 people shot between Friday between 3:30 p.m. and 3 a.m. Another 12-year-old girl was also shot in Shamiyah’s west side Garfield neighborhood. Other teens shot included four males ages 15 to 17.

The shootings continued into early Monday morning.

This is the second major spike in gun violence in the city since the violent Fourth of July weekend when 82 people were shot and 18 people killed.

There have been 1,245 shootings victims in Chicago as of July 14, according to the Chicago Tribune. There were 2,185 total shooting victims in the City in 2013.
